Different Ways
To Do An Audiobook!

Choose what suits your plot and book the best!

Reading Types

Fully-Voiced Reading

Each character in a story is given a unique voice in a fully narrated reading of an audiobook. This type of narration is frequently used in books with multiple loud-speaking characters or in books that aim to convey a specific mood through narration. As long as they can sufficiently change their voice for each distinct character, a single narrator can finish a fully voiced reading alone. A cast of several narrators or voice actors may occasionally be used in fully voiced readings.

Partially-Voiced Reading

One character in the story receives a distinct voice in an audiobook that was recorded with a reading that was only partially voiced. The protagonist or main character in the story is usually the character who receives a distinctive speaking voice or characterization in partially voiced readings. This still holds true for books where the narrator isn't the protagonist, allowing the audiobook narrator to read the narrator's lines in a straightforward manner.

Unvoiced Reading

The voice-over that a narrator completes lacks any characterization or emotion when it is read aloud. With this narration technique, the narrator can read the entirety of a book, including chapters featuring various characters and points of view, in the same voice. Audiobook narrators typically use an even, neutral speaking tone when recording an unvoiced reading that simply conveys the words on the page without any additional effects. This can make these audiobooks easier to listen to and make them sound more natural.

Cast Size Types

Solo Narration

Solo narration refers to a book's voiceover being performed entirely by one narrator. Because narrators can easily complete this type of audiobook narration on their own, it is typically the most popular. One narrator can speak for all characters during solo narration, even if a book has multiple points of view.

Dual Narration

Dual narration is when an audiobook is read by two or more narrators, each from a different point of view. This style of narration is most frequently used in books with multiple, shifting points of view, allowing readers to gain insight into the minds of numerous characters.

Duet Narration

Another form of narration that employs two or more narrators is duet narration. Each narrator in this style of narration is in charge of voicing a particular character rather than a point of view. This could imply that in a duet narration, the narrators switch voices more frequently during a chapter or page.

Full Cast Narration

An audiobook's full-cast narration, also known as cinematic narration, employs a large ensemble of narrators. Each character that appears during full-cast narration has a voice actor assigned to them who reads the descriptions and non-dialogue writing, frequently with just one narrator. Many audiobooks with full cast narration also feature sound effects.
